Zach Fry embarked on his percussion journey in the vibrant music scene of Louisville in the 1990s, where he joined forces with the six-piece World Music Ensemble known as "Prana." This collective was born from the creative fusion of Twice Told Coffee House and Kente International/Planet Drum. From the very beginning, Zach's passion for music knew no bounds, encompassing a diverse range of genres from West Africa, Cuba, South America, India, the Middle East, and beyond.

Driven by his love for music, Zach sought out educational opportunities in various renowned institutions. He honed his skills at Drummers Collective Institute in New York City, immersing himself in the rhythmic traditions of different cultures. He also studied at Fareta and Djoniba, distinguished schools of African Drum and Dance, as well as the Harbor Conservatory for the Performing Arts in Spanish Harlem.

Additionally, Zach expanded his musical horizons through programs like The Omega Institute. Along this journey, he had the privilege of learning from esteemed teachers, including Babatunde Olatunji (known for his work with Mickey Hart's Planet Drum and The Grateful Dead), Mammady Keita, Abdoul Doumbia, Madou Dembele, Johnny Almendra (collaborator with McCoy Tyner), Jose Madeira (associated with Tito Puente), Tony Rosa(5x grammy winner), Glen Caruba (notable studio percussionist for artists like Barry Manilow and Lionel Richie), Dann Sherrill (credited with performances alongside Arturo Sandoval and Steve Winwood), and Tom Roady (recognized for his work with John Denver and James Taylor).

Zach's musical journey was marked by significant milestones and collaborations. He was a founding member of the renowned Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra in New York City, leaving a mark on the world of Afrobeat music. During his career, he had the privilege of sharing the stage with his dear friends Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings on numerous occasions, until Sharon tragically lost her battle with cancer. As a percussionist, Zach takes great pride in his ability to push the boundaries of music genres, consistently seeking to contribute to the creation of innovative and captivating soundscapes.

Throughout his career, Zach has also ventured into recording studios, although his true passion lies in the electrifying interplay of live performances. He has collaborated with a multitude of groups, songwriters, and DJs over the years, bringing his rhythmic expertise and artistic sensibilities to diverse musical projects. With dedication to his craft, Zach Fry continues to explore and shape the musical landscape, embracing the unconventional and pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the world of sound.
